"Hello! I play clarinet in a professional symphony orchestra and I'm considering purchasing a new E-flat clarinet. I would like to hear opinions and recommendations from experienced musicians about the best clarinet models for professional symphonic music. Which manufacturers and models would you recommend? I'm also interested in what's currently trending in the world of clarinets. Are there any new trends or directions in instrument selection? I'm also interested in the possibility of seeking advice from professionals in Europe. What features or characteristics should be considered when choosing an instrument? Thank you for your advice and expertise!"

Your heading is about an E-flat, and your post about a B-flat. Which one do you mean?

I am sure that many players have their favorites. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the big brands. You should try a bunch and see what is most comfortable for you. But, in choosing an instrument, I would say the number one factor is intonation.

I've played all the major makers' Eefers and I REALLYlike the Buffet Tosca. Lovely sound, very in tune. I have not tried the most recent Selmers and they look promising too.

I do use a Clark Fobes extension that helps the intonation of the 12ths and seemingly the horn as a whole. Just did a oncert that included lots of piccolo/ Eb duets and we were amazingly in tune. Of course a great piccoloist helps!

I used to work for a man that made handcrafted instruments; rather unique. He has recently retired and is selling off his remaining stock. You can get in touch with me if you like.

I think ever 1 has given u good advice. To me. it's the player and not the instrument. U could physically/musically like a certain brand but in the long term, end up hating it and u've waster thousands of $$$.

With your playing experience, I'm sure can make any Eb Clarinet sound great!!!

I tried a whole bunch a few years ago when a student needed one. The winner, far and away, was the Yamaha 881 Eb clarinet. That instrument is just awesome!

I love my Tosca and I bet you will too. The first day I played it in a rehearsal the flutes and clarinets all tuned around and said WOW. (I had a Prestige previously and thought it was the best.) I was so impressed with Eefer that I bought a Tosca Bb too.

The new Selmers were not an option then but the promos on them sound fanastic.

Let us know what you nought and how you like it!

Both the Yamaha 681 and 881 are excellent horns.

The 681 is what I recommend to most people for the lowest price, lowest fuss most reliable instrument.

Keep in mind it's really difficult to get access to new Eb clarinets. There is still a shortage and a big back log of buyers.

Yamaha 681 is around $4600
Tosca is about $9400

If you really want an Aux Eb key, you can get the Rice Eb key and have a tech install it.
