Hi, tomorrow afternoon I have an audition for All-County Band. The audition solo is "Concertino" by C.M. von Weber. I love the piece, especially played with a piano (I actually think it's one of the best pieces we've had to play for All County in a long time), but I'm having trouble with the last page, starting at Rehearsal #9, tempo marking "con fuoco". This section starts with a series of 4 F Major arpeggios, each starting on a different note and ascending upwards through the chalmeau and clarion (ex. the first one starts on low chalmeu "f" and ends on throat "A", the second starts on Chalmeu "A" and ends on low clarion "C", the third starts on Chalmeu C and ends on clarion "F", and the fourth starts on chalmeu F and ends on altissimo "C". It's really awesome when it's played right...and that's my problem. I've tried practicing it slow and speeding it up (they are in 16th notes), but once I hit a tempo of about 90 bpm, I can't get my fingers to cover the holes any more. I've had the piece since November. Sometimes I can play this section perfectly, but 50% of the time I can't. That's not good enough for me, especially because when I go in to auditions, it's usually that 50% of the chance that I CAN'T play it that comes out! lol. (This also holds true even when I can play something like-95% of the time...it's that other 5% that comes out at the auditions) . Anyways, I don't know how many of you have even heard this piece or played it...but any pointers on how to keep my fingers covered over the wholes? Thanks
