I thought this was unusual.

I could be a Kinderclarinet (I think that is what it is called) But it doesn't look like it that much. It looks really weird :) Well I hope you figure out what it is.

Just a toy clarinet. The opening bid is significantly higher than one that sold just a couple of days ago.

yes, but notice it was (apparently) made by Selmer -- would that company make a toy?

You can find a new one for about $250 to $300 from the Woodwind and Brasswind. It's supposed to be a REAL Eb clarinet with a backpack case. Even the ad says that kids who play the horn can now have the same advantages that violin players have - an instrument that is sized to the player.

Finally saw the ad on ebay - definitely NOT a kinder clarinet.

A Kinderklarinette is a real instrument. This one is a toy, no matter who made it.

It's a rather old children's starter instrument -- probably from the 1950s or even the 40s. It's not fully chromatic (note the missing low E, low C# and throat Ab keys). However, it does use a real reed (probably an Eb). I've never seen one like it. Since it's made by Selmer, it might have some value as a collector's item.

Best regards.
