 Buffet R-113 Academy Model

After tinkering with the idea of buying a Leblanc Symphonie as alternate to my Leblanc Dynamique something was pulling me back to an R-13 like I used to have. I wanted a Bb from the "Golden Era" like mine which was made in 1968. Found a few that seemed well taken care of and in the price range I was working with. Then up came an R-13 Academy Model. I did a lot of research and decided that was the clarinet I wanted. So what if it was an R-13 with a cosmetic defect. As long as it plays as well as any R-13 I'll be happy. I've not received it yet, but it's scheduled for delivery in the next few days.
Any of you ever played the Academy? If so, what are your thoughts?

John,

I owned and sadly traded my Academy with a pal for his Leblanc Symphonie that was a full Boehm. The academy is a terrific instrument.

Hank

PS I have a LeBlanc L200 that is the backup to my Yamaha CS Custom.

There were quite a few threads about Buffet Academy model.
For example: http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=186857&t=186798

Jack Kissinger posted what looks like a good summary (post # 7 from the top).

I have a different experience with R13 Academy model….it turned to be that there were no undercuts in upper joint done and clarinet was very stuffy, but it could be just this particular clarinet…cosmetically it was flawless though…
Probably company decided to put it to Academy category because they didn’t want to finish it up for some reason to make a pro R13 model…that’s my guess…Please, make sure this clarinet has undercuts, if it’s so then it could be just rejected R13 with some cosmetic flaws.
Look at the SN, as well.
Good luck!
