I believe others would like to know where you take or send your clarinets for repair or an overhaul. I decided to put them in alphabetical order by the first letter of their first name. Feel free to add words of praise. Although your remarks won't be listed in this "directory", as others scroll down the listings, they'll find them. As more and more names are listed, I'll be putting them up here in alphabetical order for quick reference. Please include full name, city, state and website address. Hopefully, this will help others. Since we relocated back to Surrey in 2019, I have been going to Matterhorn Music (https://matterhornmusic.ca/) in Surrey-Newton for my clarinets and oboe, and Long & McQuade for any of our (wife and mine) string instruments.
When I still lived in Vancouver city, I would go to Massullo Music (https://massullomusic.com/) in North Burnaby.
Sandro (Massullo) is a local legend and has been in business since around 2000 and originally started out with Northwest Music (RIP) that used to be located on Main Street and supplied many schools with band instruments and supplies since back into the 1970s. I believe Sandro gets a lot of professional VSO business.
David (Matterhorn) trained or worked under Sando when both worked at Northwest (I believe David learnt his skill back in his home country Switzerland), so between them there is a lot of workmanship knowledge and skill. David has done some restoration work on old and rare saxophones, such as a bass saxophone that came through his shop last year or so. When I have had this or that pad or air leak problem, he's been able to identity it pretty fast just from a verbal description, etc.
What is awesome is both of these gentlemen learnt their trades when they were young, so they have decades of experience yet are still relatively young and will be around with us repairing instruments for many many more years.
I wouldn't be surprised if Long & McQuade near where I live farms out their wind instrument work to either of them, I have been told other locations have pretty much done so - certainly the ones located in downtown areas have sent business to Sandro that I do know, because been referred to him in the past.

Hey Dan,
Andreas Moe. My instruments use Clarisono "quartz resonance" pads, and Andreas has been through their training on how to work with them. There might be other people in the country who also have, but I don't know of any. I've had the Bb comprehensively overhauled by Andreas and it works very well indeed, so . . . Don't mess with success.

Daniel Deitch, San Francisco https://www.danieldeitch.com/ Outstanding, craftsman level work and very familiar with historic instruments as well as modern. Daniel can do very complex work/modifications/etc. in addition to ferreting out and fixing the little things that you didn't even know were an issue. He's a truly great guy to work with, and very reasonably priced, especially given his location. He actually should charge more than he does for the outstanding quality and detail of his work (don't tell him! :-) ) and he won't do work just for the sake of running up a bill.
Wolfgang Lohff/Birgit Pfeiffer, Copenhagen (but often on a road trip right near you!). https://clarinet.dk/ They can do anything - *anything* - you can think of to a clarinet . Any question that starts with "could you . . . " will be answered with "we can do that." and yes, they can. Absolute world-class craftsmanship, and your clarinet will never have played better than after they work on it. Can be a bit on the pricey side but not really that high (and you get the meticulous quality you pay for).

I was first introduced to Liam Burke, via a mutual friend. I bought a Prestige R-13 from him and it was during our talks about setting up the instrument that I was introduced to his repair work. We got talking and I ended up subscribing to his repair services. Over the past couple of years, he has worked on my Bb/A set as well as my bass clarinet and E-flat clarinet. I've visited his place in NYC and mailed him my instruments. He is a busy guy and can take a while but his work is first-rate. He apprenticed with Mark Jacobi and it shows. His attention to detail is incredible and he's just an honest guy who will give you honest opinions.

I just had my pre-R13 clarinet that is approximately 74 years old overhauled at Amro Music in Memphis, TN. I had not played it much over the past 25 years, even though I had played it almost daily from the time I received it when I as 12 to the time I stopped playing the clarinet on a regular basis in my early 20s.
The clarinet was for the most part in good working order except few stuck rods, green heavily tarnished keys, and a layer of dirt. They replaced the pads, leveled them, replaced all corks, cleaned keys, swedged keys, oiled it, and when I put it on the tuner last night it was more in-tune without any adjustments than it had ever been so they worked on the intonation.
They did all of this in less than a week!

The price is good (better then my local shops), and they talk a good game on the website, including basically showing a step by step process that they use. My plan is to purchase a used professional model like an R13 online, and then getting a full overhaul as opposed to purchasing a new instrument. Mostly for financial reasons. Spending $4k on an new instrument isn't in the cards for me at this moment.
Any insight into this particular shop would be greatly appreciated.

Ryan Simmons, our 2nd bassoonist here in San Diego, is a fantastic repair technician. I've been bringing my clarinets to him for repairs since I was a local high schooler, and his work has only gotten better over the years.

Kessler workshop overhauled a mid 50’s R13 for me. Nice job, done at reasonable cost and quick turnaround. This was approx 8 years ago. Being this is “old" info, a more up-to-date response might be more useful.

I take my instruments to Onks Woodwind Specialists. Met with Jason Onks and he was very nice. Did great work on my LeBlanc Opus Bb. I plan to take all my instruments to him, although he works mostly with oboes. https://www.onksws.com Smyrna, Tennessee
Jason recommended Clarinets by Copeland, a little further north, and said Johathan Copeland apprenticed with him some years ago. It is too far to drive, but I may also give Copeland a try. I have not used his services as of yet.
