Hi all!

I wanted to ask for your help: I've been offered a nice old(more than 10 years) elfat leblanc clarinet. It plays well and is in pretty good shape. The price on it from the owner is around 1500$ and still, I feel it is pretty high since some repair is necessary.
If anyone thinks they know the value of this instrument, can you write me here so I know if I need to take it as is or bargain for it?
Mind you, it is a really nice easy playing instrument and those are hard to find regarding eflat clarinets!
thanks for your help!

The question really is, can you get a better instrument for the same price? Do you really need an Eb or is it a whim? Can you wait?
Generally, if you can get an effer that plays well in-tune then you should take it. 1500$ is not cheap but not outlandishly expensive either, IMO. If it plays in tune then it is worth it- a bit of key work is easier to fix than pitch.

If it's the LL model, be sure to check the intonation carefully. At least on the one I used, the barrel was far too short, making the throat tones and the upper clarion very sharp.

Offhand, $1,500 seems like a high price for an older instrument, but if it cuddles up and says "I'm yours," then grab it.

I'm in the process of awaiting a [local] offer for my fine condition Noblet Eb Soprano, finding that a new E11 is obtainable at about [a discounted] $750, making me lower a "too-high" asking. Yes, 1500 is too much, IMHO. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don
