what tonal differences (if any) do you hear when you oil the bore? Just curious.

The condensated water might take different turns in an oiled or unoiled bore (there's no "better" or "worse", just "different"), so it is possible that certain toneholes get waterlogged after oiling - or that they stop being waterlogged.

I swear it sounds darker, creamier and more plush. Maybe it is just the placebo effect or mind over matter-whatever it is I can swear I hear a subtle change in the timbre of the oboe.

I've oiled the bore of my 6 month old oboe about 3 times...can't say I've noticed anything in the immediate aftermath of each oiling...I oil very conservatively, so I'd be surprised if it made much difference. I do notice that water buildup in an oboe does affect the tone. After swabbing a reasonably "wet" oboe, I find that the sound frees up a bit. This is one among several reasons that I swab quite frequently.

I actually do not like the sound of my instrument in the first day or two after oiling. It sounds too bright to me. But that affect disappears, and I again hear all of the characteristics of my instrument which were the reasons I chose it.
