Basically the Howarth S20c and S40c cors have the same bore, body diameter and tonehole layout and straight toneholes (not undercut), but the difference is the S40c has metal sleeved sockets throughout and metal tipped tenons (though the same bells are used on both which have a lined socket). The S40c has the same keywork as the S20c plus the Ab-Bb trill on the top joint, 3rd 8ve and banana key. Both have LH F key and articulated low C#.

The S5 is a full Gillet conservatoire system with the same diameter joints as the S20c and S40c, plus undercut toneholes, fully adjustable forked F vent mechanism, smaller pad cup for LH 3 for better venting of the note A, hand mounted and fitted keywork (as opposed to jig mounted keys as on the S20c and S40c), more adjusting screws, more springs and an engraved logo on the bell.

The XL is as the S5 but in addition has wider diameter joints and even more adjusting screws, metal sleeved tenons as well as sockets, adjustable thumbrest, low B vent key on the bell and a low Bb barrel that fits between the bell and bottom joint for doing Mahler.
