Earlier this week I got the new Buffet E11C. I think it's a new model, unless the Boosey web site is out-of-date. The web site says that it's designed with the young player in mind. I tried it with a Fobes Debut mouthpiece and a soft reed - fantastic. The Chalumeau range is resonant, and the Clarion notes sing. I am really impressed with its quality, and how R13-like it sounds.
In general, new C clarinets are not discounted as much as the same models in Bb. The discounted price of the E11C is a couple of hundred dollars more than the Bb E11. This seems to contradict it's young player target market, but for the $760 I paid, I think it's a good deal for someone looking for a new C.

Discounting involves mass-production of clarinets ... Bb clarinets, that is. That's why an A costs (some) more, an Eb costs (+/- 30%) more, etc. through the many types and lines of clarinets.
Boosey sells a bunch of E-11's and R-13 and the numbers allow them to to wave lower prices. Clarinets with less production runs cost more.

C clarinets are always pretty expensive, regardless the brand. Good to hear about the Buffet. I owned a Noblet for a while and it was pretty nice, but still didn't have the nice tone you mentioned. I eventually sold it and lost tons of money on it---like usual for me.

I paid about the same for my new E-11 C and I love it!!!!! So much fun to play that I wish more music called for it. Oh well, my two cents worth.

I tried the E11 C clarinet at a Buffet show a few months ago and liked it very much. The Buffet RC Prestige, Leblanc Opus and Stephen Fox C clarinets are noticeably better, but at 3 or 4 times the price. This E11 C should be a big seller, especially at a discount to $760.
C clarinet is a great instrument. Everybody should have one. I have a 1928 Buffet (no, not for sale) and an Albert system Conn that I made into a very cute lamp.

Has anyone tried the Forte c? If so, how does its intonatin compare to the Buffet E11? Does either sound shrill in the upper register?
