I suggest trying both. No reason not to. You may like the Rovner better than the vandoren, whereas someone that answers you could like the vandoren better than the rovner. Then you've been led 'astray' due to someone's opinion. Especially when the only opinion that should matter is YOUR OWN! [wink]

As for my opinion, I say it kinda matters on the mouthpiece. On the two mouthpieces I currently have, I like my metal ligature (not either of the ones listed above, but I'm talking about material here). The cloth ligature (a rovner that I have, plain sucked on them). On another mouthpiece I used to own, I liked the rovner. On THAT one, the metal lig I have sucked.

Conclusion . . . .
